130 YEARS AGO

There is mob law at Eureka with the coal burners defying the law and threatening to burn the town down. The dispute is about a discrepancy of two and a half cents per bushel for charcoal. Mine owners are paying less, The Coal Burners Association, numbering a thousand men, wants more. The state militia has been called to quell

rioting.

100 YEARS AGO

An even 100 children are domiciled at the State Orphan's home today. Five came in from Tonopah yesterday and two from Dayton. Joe Josephs and Mrs. Josephs have their hands full. Not an orphan's home in the country can show the record of Nevada's institution. Not a child has died at the home since it was established 40 years ago.

70 YEARS AGO

At a special meeting of the city trustees the proposal to initiate a sewer project for Carson City was discussed with the Reno WPA. During the American Legion convention next week in the city Trustee Oliver Pratt was given the duty of regulating traffic. Pratt will coordinate with August Berning, who

is in charge of the

parade.

50 YEARS AGO

A five-governor committee met in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in a combined, federal, state and local effort to provide protection against radioactive fallout as "a major contribution to peace."

20 YEARS AGO

Carson City's Warren Engine Co. No. 1 placed third in hand pumping competition at the Virginia City Firemen's Muster.

10 YEARS AGO

Carson Valley's Nick Grant is elected as Active 20-30 Club's National President.
