130 YEARS AGO

He Wants to Die: It soon commenced snowing and the air was bitter cold. But with the curtains (of the stage) buttoned and straw at my feet, also a replenished bottle of the worst mountain whiskey, I managed to pass the weary night away. Oh! How I longed for daylight, for it be known I was a sick man and fleeing from the wrath of a full fledged bout of Bodie pneumonia. Once my throat choked up, and calling the driver to stop, I prepared to meet my God. Friday: More of He Wants to Die.

100 YEARS AGO

Superintendent Joe Josephs of the State Orphans Home has had a hard siege as of late. During the last three months some 40 of the children have been taken sick. The siege was so bad, the orphanage had to hire a nurse to help. Mr. and Mrs. Josephs, although very tired, have not lost one inmate this year.

70 YEARS AGO

Appealing to all Nevadans to donate money to have the old Mint Building renovated into a state museum, the Nevada Museum and Art Institute said the response was "just fair." The renovation has been termed, "a true Nevada project." Judge Clark J. Guild of Carson City, William Donovan of Silver City and Miles N. Pike of Reno are members of the committee.

50 YEARS AGO

Stan's Windmill, First National Bank, Maxine Stratton and Ruth Gibson topped the sixth annual Capitol Women's Bowling Association at Carson Bowl over the weekend.

20 YEARS AGO
