Tom was born and raised in Portland Ore., and attended Benson Tech High School in Portland. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jacie Shelton; three children, Teresa Levash, Sandy Parkhurst and Robby Shelton; son-in-law Lenny Levash; grandchildren Amanda Cole, Matthew Cole and Ryan Parkhurst; great-grandchildren Jaylen Martinez, Isabella Martinez, Kylee Randell, Mackenna Parkhurst and Haylee Hansen; and sisters Patty and Lisa Shelton.
Tom was involved in stockcar racing since 1958 and here in Carson City at T-Car Speedway since 1969.
Tom earned much attention with his racing skills and took home many trophies. Those closest to him know what he cherished most in life was his family, who will dearly miss him.
A service will be held for family and friends at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17 at Saint Teresa of Avila, Lompa Lane, Carson City. The family requests that instead of flowers, donations be made to The American Cancer Society or Kyle Petty's Victory Junction.
