TRUCKEE, Calif. - An unidentified explosion Tuesday afternoon has injured at least five people at the Henness Flats Apartments complex on Waters Way in Truckee.

Helicopters are carrying two people with serious injuries to regional burn centers, said North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District Chief Mike Brown and Truckee Fire Chief Bryce Keller. Three other burn victims are being transported via ambulance to an area hospital, Keller said.

NLTFPD, North Tahoe Fire and Truckee Fire are among the responding units to the incident. The Town of Truckee Building Department also is on scene, Keller said, to survey the property. The windows at one of the complex's units are blown out, Keller said.

According to police scanner traffic, initial calls of an explosion came in about 3:45 p.m.
