The Lodge, an assisted living and memory care community, opened its doors to the public on Saturday.
Located at 2200 E. Long St., The Lodge is the first facility in Carson City to offer services to those suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
"I think Carson City has really been waiting for something like this to move into town," said Tami Allen, administrator at The Lodge.
There are 21 living units in the memory care wing, which is a secure area featuring a separate entrance, lobby, whirlpool spa and a fenced-in patio area. Allen said they offer programs tailored Alzheimer's patients needs.
The assisted living section of The Lodge has 61 units and offers a host of amenities, from the library to the billiards room to the media room with large-screen television, surround sound and Internet terminals. There is the dining room with a large dance floor and outside deck looking down from the third floor.
Residents are offered three home-cooked meals a day, and there are also snacks and beverages available at all hours. The family room with full kitchen also can be used for family gatherings.
Housekeeping and laundry services are available for those residents who want them.
Add in the spa room with full-time massage therapist, and the hair salon and barber shop, and residents can get almost everything they need without having to leave the facility. But The Lodge also offers transportation for residents for medical appoints as well as numerous recreational activities. Daily social programs also will keep residents busy.
"This facility allows residents to be as independent at they can be," sail Lori Hart, community relations coordinator.
"Most of our residents are very active, very independent. A lot of them want to be around for the services as they age. Some of them just need a little help getting dressed, or with medication."
