130 YEARS AGO

The charges made against the State Printer Robinson in the Appeal have never elicited the slightest reply. We have understood from several sources that he has threatened the editor of this paper with all sorts of calamities, of which shotguns are included. If this paper has printed anything that is untrue, law is a much better vindicator of character than gunpowder. The State Printer must realize he is a public official. His present bluster is altogether foolish and meaningless.

100 YEARS AGO

Mark Twain has just celebrated his 74th birthday. Twain was for years a resident of Carson City, when he was deputy secretary of state.

70 YEARS AGO

Nevada had many camps of brief existence according to a column in the Inyo Register, "Tales of the Pioneers." John Muir, traveling through Nevada some 60 years ago, observed that for every place having life and activity at that time he had seen at least five that were utterly deserted.
