Radio license testing to be held Saturday

The last test session of the year for Amateur Radio licenses in Stagecoach will take place on Saturday.

Registration will be 8-10 a.m. Pre-registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. The current fee for the tests is $15.

The testing location is 8755 Cimarron Trail, at the intersection of Apache and Cimarron. Take Apache north off U.S. 50 approximately 1 mile.

Meeting for Noel Christmas Dinner

St. Gall Church is seeking volunteers for its 11th Noel Christmas day dinner for those without family. If interested, there will be a planning meeting at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Pastoral Center at St. Gall Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Volunteers are needed for set up, food prep, decorating, greeting, serving, and clean up.

All volunteers are invited to the dinner, too.

Anyone in the community who would otherwise be alone on Christmas day, is invited to the dinner.

The Santa Train is coming to town

The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City is hosting Santa Train rides, a holiday treat for the whole family. The event features a ride aboard historic Virginia & Truckee Railroad equipment and a visit with Santa Claus.

The train runs from

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 2180

S. Carson St.

The Warren Engine Company #1 will have hot chocolate, food and refreshments available.

Santa Train rides are offered at only $2 per seat. The museum offers free admission to the exhibit gallery with purchase of a Santa Train ticket.

Listen to a lecture on ghost towns

The Douglas Co. Historical Society's December lecture will take place at 7 p.m. today. Guest speaker Stan Paher will present his slide show-lecture "Ghost Towns and Railroads of Lyon, Mineral, Esmeralda and Northern Nye Counties." He will show historic pictures of many places along the route of the old Carson & Colorado Railroad.

The lecture will be at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395 North, in Gardnerville.

Annual Living Nativity this weekend

Carson City First United Methodist Church will present its 9th annual living nativity at 6:30-8 pm. Saturday and Sunday.

The church is located at the intersection of Musser and Division streets and the drive through begins at the corner of King and Division streets.

There is no charge to enjoy this Christmas pageant, which represents church members' Christmas gift to Northern Nevada. A voluntary donation of non-perishable food, however, will allow us to assist our community's unemployed citizens.

More than 3000 people experienced the living nativity last year. Many were crying as they left, moved by this touching re-enactment.

Obedience classes begin Tuesday

Need help in establishing good conduct and curbing bad habits in your canine friend? This class, by instructor Guy Yeaman, uses a light-handed approach to help you teach your dog to obey commands such as heel, sit, stay, stand and recall. Each dog needs a training collar and a fabric or leather lead. Dogs must be at least 4 months old and current on their shots.

The next session begins Dec. 15. Classes are held at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. Cost for the six-week session is $75. For more information or to register for a session, please call Yeaman at 265-4530.
