130 YEARS AGO

It is said that the engines of the Comstock generate enough electricity to light all the mines on the ledge, together with the whole city. Yet, there is no one able to utilize the fluid to save gas and candles. There is enough hot water raised in the mines each day to heat all of Gold Hill and Virginia City, but it doesn't get any serious attention. It appears all the brain power there is concentrated on a means for circumventing the public though stock manipulation.

100 YEARS AGO

Mrs. X. Spooner of this city went to San Francisco recently for an operation to remove a growth near one of her eyes that was affecting her vision. The operation was deemed a success. Her friends note she is getting along nicely and will soon be able to return home.

70 YEARS AGO

Ormsby County's three Boy Scout troops will hold a district court of honor next Friday. The troop with the largest attendance will be presented with a radio donated by the Nevada Day committee.

50 YEARS AGO

Final tributes were given to George Foley, Nevada department commander of United Spanish War Veterans. Foley was a longtime Carson City resident and employee of the state highway department. He was 89 years old.

20 YEARS AGO

American General Development opens a 3,000 square foot professional office with another 5,000 square foot warehouse on Arrowhead Drive.

10 YEARS AGO

A fire that gutted the Nevada Appeal building is recounted in a series of articles on the millennium. The fire was thought to be caused by arson, but did not stop the paper from being published the next day.
