130 YEARS AGO

Myster Edytr: I see the Appeal is friendly to us boys, and that's why I wryite to you. All the boys is fond of theatyr plays, and I lyke em too. I Lyke plays wit lots of inguns, iguana blood, red fire and wileans in em. We've had enough out of the froo froo of the Union Square rot, and behaf of da boys, I ask for sometin more thrillin. 100 YEARS AGO

Penniless and with four of her children in the Orphan's Home, a former resident of this city has given up her youngest child to a representative of the California Children's Society. To earn a living, she has been forced to take a job cooking at a mining camp and does not have the means to support the child. Mrs. George Wingfield, wife of Nevada's richest mine owner, has offered to pay for the child's expenses until a home is found for it.

70 YEARS AGO

The grand opening of Tommy Pardini's Victory Club is Saturday, February 24. It's the newest, smartest and most modern club in the state. Special lighting effects include fluorescent tubing. A special swing band will be on hand for dancing well into Sunday.

50 YEARS AGO

A storm has delayed collection of signatures in an effort to stop demolition of the V&T Roundhouse. Organizers are pleading with the landlord to stop the action to tear down the historic structure.

10 YEARS AGO

Barry Bonds figures if he hits 20 homers per season for the next seven seasons, he can catch his godfather, Willy Mays.
