LAS VEGAS - Carson High's girls basketball team split its first two games at the annual Centennial Holiday Tournament Monday afternoon.
Carson knocked off Southwest Tech 60-52 in its opener and then lost 55-42 to Granite Hills.
Carson, 7-3 overall, plays two more games today at 11:45 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. The night game will be against Centennial.
Carson coach Todd Ackerman said the first game was a back and forth affair.
"We would get up by six and they would come back," he said. "We got up 10 and they would get it back to six.
"It was kind of sloppy for both teams, but for an opening game it was pretty good. We did some things we wanted to work on; things we wanted to do. We got a win so it was good."
Whitney Nash led Carson with 14 points, while Elayna Shine and Gina Bianchi added 13 apiece.
In the Granite Hills game, the second and fourth periods proved to be the Senators' undoing.
Carson led 15-12 after the first period, but was outscored 14-7 in the second and fell behind 26-22 at the half. In the fourth, Granite Hills held a 14-9 advantage.
"They hit 8 3-pointers," Carson coach Todd Ackerman said. "Four of those were in the third quarter. We just couldn't match it."
Nash led Carson with 13 and Bianchi added 12.
