Damonte Ranch racked up 1,120 points to walk away with the team championship at Saturday's Sierra Wrestling Association youth tournament at Carson High School.

Seventeen teams and more than 300 wrestlers competed in the one-day, round-robin event.

The Northwest Knights racked up 880 points to finish second, while the Carson Buldogs were third with 800 points and the Greenwave from Fallon took fourth with 705 points.

"We had a good showing," said Steve Lani, the director of the Carson program. "We're good. It was a good day. With a couple of more kids, we could have taken second place."

Lani said that wrestlers were divided by weight and age, and that there could be no more than a 10 percent weight differential between wrestlers. He said that this was done in round-robin style so that wrestlers could get several matches during the day compared to a traditional tournament where action is based solely how a wrestler does.

Carson had six wrestlers win their divisions, seven more finished second, two took thirds and seven others placed fourth.
