Dr. Clifford Jex Lawrence

Dr. Clifford Jex Lawrence, 82, passed away January 31, 2009 in Washington, Utah. He was born Dec. 3, 1926, in Spanish Fork, Utah to Frances Jex Lawrence and Alice Enid Bale. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School, served in the United States Air Force for four years, earned a B.S from Brigham Young University, a M.Ed. from University of Nevada, Reno, and an Ed.D. from Utah State University.

Cliff was a prominent educator who worked for the Clark County School District from 1955 to 1977. He began his career with the Clark County School District in 1955 as a teacher and later served as a principal, school administrator, and as Deputy Superintendent of Schools. He was Superintendent of Schools for the Carson City School District from 1977-1982. His passion for education lives on in the Clifford J. Lawrence Junior High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. Having a school named after him was one of the biggest honors of his life.

Following his retirement from the Carson City School District, he was self-employed as an insurance and investment broker for many years. He won many awards and honors in that capacity.

Cliff was a member of the Junior League and Rotary Club in Las Vegas, Nevada. He served on the President's Committee for the Employment of the Handicapped and the Board of Directors for the Southern Nevada Museum.

Cliff was well respected by all for his intellect, personal and professional integrity and ability to maintain excellent working relationships.

Cliff loved family, golf, skiing, reading, and spending time with friends. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Carter Lawrence of Washington, Utah; son Gregg (Susan) of Elko; grandchildren, Jex Lawrence, Andy Lawrence, Colin Lawrence; daughter Terri (Cary) Manoogian of Arcadia, Calif., grandchildren Kristin Manoogian, Ashley Manoogian; and brother Fred (Saundra). Cliff was loved very much by his family.

Visitation and a brief service for family and friends will be 9:45-10:45 a.m., Friday at the Walker Family Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, Utah. Services will be 11 a.m. at the mortuary. A graveside dedication will be held at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m., February 13 at the Palm Mortuary in Las Vegas, Nevada, 1600 South Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, Nevada, 89146.
