A Carson City man led officers on a chase through the west side of Carson City on Friday afternoon before arresting him for alleged felony DUI.

A Carson City Sheriff's deputy spotted a Honda Accord registered to Jeffery Dean Mauppins, 38, driving south on Stewart Street and attempted to stop him for an outstanding failure to appear warrant. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop, made his way to Carson Street, then headed west on Washington Street at a high rate of speed.

As the chase continued on Division and William streets, the pursuit was broken off after the subject almost lost control.

The officer located the vehicle shortly thereafter in the area of Spear and Phillips streets, and witnesses said the driver left on foot.

A search of the car turned up a container of white powder and a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine.

Another officer located Mauppins at his residence in the 2600 block of Panamint Street about 40 minutes later.

Mauppins denied driving the car, and said he had been inside his home all day. Deputies noticed that his pants were muddy and had marks consistent with climbing over fences. He also couldn't name the person who he said was driving his car.

Mauppins was charged with third offense driving under the influence, a felony. He was also charged with eluding a peace officers, running a stop sign, possession of paraphernalia and a warrant for failure to appear. Bail was set at $11,493.
