Suspected drunken driver hits NHP cruiser Monday night

RENO (AP) " A Sparks woman is facing charges after her car struck a Nevada Highway Patrol cruiser assisting in a traffic stop.

The NHP says Troopers Mike Stapledon and Fred Christopherson were in their vehicle parked along the U.S. 395 freeway when they were struck around 10 p.m. Monday. Both were treated at a hospital and released.

Authorities say Alice Mae Lester, 30, was traveling north in the far right lane when her vehicle drifted off the road and struck the patrol car in the left rear.

Investigators say she failed field sobriety tests at the crash scene, and a subsequent test showed a blood alcohol level of more than three times the legal limit of 0.08.

She was booked on charges of first-offense DUI and failing to maintain a travel lane.
