Reserve your singing Valentine

The Chorus of the Comstock barbershop quartet will offer Singing Valentines on Valentine's Day. With a minimum donation of $30, the Valentine will receive a barbershop quartet serenade, a red rose and personalized card. Early appointments are recommended. The Chorus of the Comstock is a nonprofit organization that preserves and promotes barbershop harmony while raising funds for music scholarships, grants and education.

Enjoy an evening with Oscar

Tahoe Arts Project hosts An Evening with Oscar at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, Feb. 22, with a special big screen viewing of the Academy Awards, five course dinner, silent auction and live entertainment.

Tahoe Arts Project, or TAP, is a bi-state, nonprofit organization that brings artists to perform at 11 schools in the region.

An Evening with Oscar begins at 4 p.m. with local celebrity Howdie Nave on the red carpet, silent auction and no-host bar in the MontBleu Theatre. The live broadcast of the Oscars begins at 5 p.m. on the theater-sized screen. Dinner is served at 5:30 p.m. Randy and Theresa Daggs of Dyna "Mic" Duo will emcee the event.

Costs is $65 per person, reserved tables for 10 for $700, or booths for two for $150. Tickets are on sale at the visitor centers on south shore, by calling TAP at 530-542-3632 or at the MontBleu Box Office at 800-235-8259.

Garfin Gathering at the BAC

"Speedy" Garfin & the Garfin Gathering are coming to the Brewery Arts Center for a feel-good evening of jazz and comedy at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb 2. The concert is hosted by the Brewery and Mile High Jazz Band.

The even features "Speedy" Garfin on alto sax, soprano sax, clarinet, flute, conga drums and vocals; keyboardist Kerry Shacklett; drummer George Stigliano; and the the vocal styles and choreography of Jakki Ford.

Tickets are $15 general admission, with a $3 discount for seniors, students, and MHJB and BAC members. Tickets are available at breweryarts.org and at the door. Call the BAC at 775-883-1976.
