Carson City roads clear; controls on mountain passes

The Nevada Department of Transportation reports at 5:55 a.m. all roads open with no controls with the following exceptions:

Interstate 80 " Chains required except for 4-wheel drive vehicles for 13.5 miles between Kingvale and 1.8 miles west of Truckee, Calif.

Highway 50 " Snowtires or chains required for 6.2 miles between .5 miles west of Glenbrook and 6.9 miles west of Highway 395 in south Carson City.

SR 431 " Snowtires or chains required for 9 miles between .1 miles north of Highway 50 and .2 miles north of Virginia city.

SR 342 " Snowtires or chains required for 3.8 miles between SR 341 at Silver City and junction SR 341 at Virginia City.

Weather for the Carson City area today will have dense fog in the morning with a chance of snow in the afternoon with accumulation of 1-3 inches in the foothills. Highs 32-42 with south winds 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

Tonight, cloudy with scattered snow showers with lows 19-29 with southwest winds 10-15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Tuesday, mostly cloudy with scattered snow showers with highs 33-43 with southwest winds around 10 mph.

Utility work continues on Little Lane between Saliman Road south Stewart Street, mainly between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., with lane restrictions on Little Lane west of South Roop Street.

Utility work is also being done on North Roop Street from East John to Long streets, and on Corbett street, west of North Roop.

Road work continues in Carson City with areas of delays. There is continued work on Fairview Drive from South Edmonds to South Carson Street with lane closures and possible delays, as with East Fifth Street from Saliman Road to Fairview Drive.

Work on Highway 50 in east Carson City and Mound House has posted lower speed limits with narrow lanes just east of Flint Drive.
