Carson City

Emblem Club hosts mystery dinner:

Carson City Emblem Club No. 507 hosts a mystery dinner, 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Elks Lodge, 515 N. Nevada St. Cost is $12.50 per person. Seating is limited and by pre-sale only. Tickets may be purchased at the Elks Lodge 2:30-8:30 p.m. daily. Proceeds benefit hearing impaired programs. For information, call, 882-2177.

Open Space Advisory meeting canceled:

The regularly scheduled meeting of the Open Space Advisory Committee, 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 23 has been canceled. It has been rescheduled for 6 p.m., Monday, March 16, at the Carson City Community Center, Sierra Room, 851 E. William St. For information, call 887-2262.

Learn ballroom dancing:

Larry Ward teaches adult ballroom dancing 7:30-9:15 p.m., every Thursday, at Pinkerton Dance Academy, 2045 California St. Cost is $10 per person per session. Classes begin Thursday, March 5 and meet through March 26; April 2 through April 23; May 7 through May 28 and June 4 through June 25. Teens are welcome. Call 392-0182.

Dancers wanted for film documentary:

The B Sharps documentary film company will shoot a film based on the 61-year career of square dance caller Larry Ward, who moved to Carson Valley to teach ballroom and square dancing. Square dancers of all abilities are invited to participate in the filming of a documentary on square dancing at the CVIC Hall in Minden Saturday, Feb. 28. The first session is 2-5 p.m. and will feature exhibitions in square, round and ballroom dancing. There is no charge. The second session at 7-10 p.m. features rounds between alternating mainstream and plus-square dancing. Cost for the second session is $7. Friendship Force International of Reno-Tahoe celebrates World Friendship Day and the 20th anniversary of the club with a potluck supper, 2 p.m., Sunday, March 1, Meadows Club House, Reno.
