Couple in high-speed chase came to Nevada to wed

A California couple arrested late Wednesday night after a high-speed chase through the Gardnerville Ranchos came here to get married.

Marc George Dubois, 34, and Bidgett Rebecca Damon, 30, of Redwood City were arrested after the chase, which began in Alpine County and allegedly reached speeds of 100 mph.

The couple appeared in East Fork Justice Court on Friday morning.

Dubois said he worked as a plumber and came to Nevada to get married.

He's accused of driving his car into a patrol car at 55 mph Wednesday night and a number of other counts related to the chase.

Dubois is being held without bail because he is on parole out of California.

Damon admitted one charge of misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

"Who do you think you are, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow?" Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl asked Damon. He fined Damon $632.

Damon, whose dog was also taken into custody, was concerned the pitbull puppy was at the pound. EnEarl said the court would tell Animal Control that she would be released Sunday and could pick up her dog.

Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Douglas County deputies were contacted by Alpine County authorities in pursuit of a red Ford pickup truck from Markleeville on Highway 88 toward the county line.

The vehicle was traveling on the wrong side of the highway in excess of 100 mph without headlights. Douglas deputies joined the pursuit and the vehicle turned right on Centerville Lane, ignoring stop signs and traffic signals.

The vehicle turned on Dresslerville at Centerville, continuing at high speeds in the wrong lane. The truck raced over the Riverview Bridge and ran a red light at Highway 395, turning right.

Deputies, fearing the speeding truck would cause a major accident, forced the vehicle off the road near the Washoe Tribal Smoke Shop, causing minor damage to a patrol car.

The arresting officer broke out the driver's side window with his duty weapon and hauled out Dubois.

Dubois was jailed on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, driving under the influence of drugs, parole/probation violation, eluding a police officer and possession of drug paraphernalia.

With the assistance of a K-9 officer from the Washoe Tribal police, officers found marijuana in the vehicle.
