Dayton girls ousted from playoffs

The Dayton Dust Devils were blown out by Lowry 48-31 in the first round of the Northern 3A regional playoffs at Reed High School in Sparks.

Dayton scored just eight points in the first half as the Buckaroos jumped out to a 29-8 lead.

The Dust Devils scored 14 points in the third quarter, but finished with just nine more.

They were led by Ariella Ruybal's 16 points.

Carson batting cages to open

Carson Allsports Training Center is set to open this weekend and with it the city's only batting cages that are open to the public.

The training facility will hold a grand opening celebration Saturday. It is located at the 50 East Business Center on Highway 50 across from the Goodwill Store.

Training classes are available for baseball, softball, basketball, football, speed and agility along with strength and conditioning.

Wolf Pack set to hold first practice

The Nevada football team will hold its first spring practice today.

The practices are not open to the public, but the first open scrimmage will be held March 14.

"Obviously we are excited about spring practice because we feel we have a lot to build on," Nevada coach Chris Ault said. "There is a lot to get accomplished and we're ready to get after it."

Nevada finished 7-6 and ended the season with a loss to Maryland in the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho.
