Alexander Ambrosius Koopman died suddenly at home Feb. 18, 2009. He was 44 years old. Alex was born in Charlotte, N.C. Feb. 20, 1964 to Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Koopman. One of three sons, Alex was raised in the California Bay Area town of Newark.

In his youth, Alex rode BMX for one of Newark's first bicycle motor cross teams. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes and was titled as Most Valuable Player during his years playing soccer for the Newark Soccer Club. Alex also gave back to his community while serving as a Boy Scout in Troop 441. In his adult years, Alex was passionate about building custom hot rods, coaching his nephew's soccer team, fishing and spending time with the ones he loved most. Alex was also totally stoked about his recent membership with the custom car club "Freak Of Nature".

Alex loved life to the fullest. He was a beautiful son, brother, uncle, friend and a blessing to all who knew him. He will be sorely missed. Alex is survived by his brothers Peyton and Edward; his stepfather Lee Watson, and his beloved girlfriend Debbie Heath.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley, Carson City. A celebration of life potluck festival will immediately follow 3-7 p.m., at the Elks Lodge.
