Timeout with the Glogovacs

Sophie and Gigi Glogovac picked up Virginia City's first regional title in girls basketball this week. They will play for the school's first state championship beginning Friday when they face Lund in the first round of the Nevada 1A state playoffs.

JL: Sophie this is your senior year, what's going to be your biggest memory of your time at Virginia City?

SG: Playing with Gigi for three years. We're pretty much known as the Glogovacs.

JL: How long have you both been playing basketball?

SG: I started playing when I got here in the fourth grade.

GG: I started playing in the fourth grade also.

SG: Just basically forever, not necessarily on a team.

JL: You've played against some 4A schools during summer ball, how was that experience?

GG: They're a lot different than the schools in our league. I think we'd fair OK, I'm not saying we'd go out and kick all their butts. We played a lot of those teams in summer ball and a lot of them, it was a close game or we took it.

SG: Probably the biggest team we played was Reno, we got our butts handed to us.

JL: Is there any basketball in your future after high school?

SG: I don't think there will be. I'm going to school and I'm going to try and be a journalism major at UNR...I just love to write. I think part of it is because I had a really great English teacher for four years, Ms. Kreyeski, and she's been a big inspiration.

JL: Gigi, what are you hoping for next year without your sister being here?

GG: It's going to be a lot, a lot different, but I feel that there's a lot of good girls that are on the bench. I think that they'll be able to pull us through.

JL: If you had to do one thing to win state, what would it be?

SG: Play with heart, want it.

GG: In the end, it comes down to having the heart for it. It's not necessarily who's more talented or who's won more games.
