BUFFALO, N.Y. " An FBI agent was shot during a roundup of drug suspects at a house in Buffalo, N.Y. as part of an investigation that also resulted in the arrest Thursday of a member of the NBA Developmental League's Reno Bighorns.
The agent was reported to be in stable condition.
The Bighorns player is Damone Brown. He was arrested in Reno Thursday morning and was scheduled to make his initial appearance in federal court later Thursday on a felony count of money laundering.
Brown, 29, is accused of leasing a safe deposit box at a Buffalo bank for an alleged drug kingpin to store his drug proceeds in. Authorities seized $170,000 from the box before he was arrested.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph Guerra said he does not know whether Brown benefited financially from the arrangement. He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
Brown, a 6-foot-9 forward who played at Syracuse, is averaging nearly 16 points a game this season for the affiliate of the Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks.
Assistant Bighorns Coach Jason Glover said he talked with Brown briefly Thursday morning while he was in federal custody.
"We are in the process of investigating this ourselves. Until we know more, that is the only comment we will have," Glover told The Associated Press.
Laurie Bennett, the special agent in charge of Buffalo's FBI office, said the shooting happened Thursday after a witness was arrested at a house. She did not comment on local media reports that another agent fired the shot.
The agent was among law-enforcement officers rounding up drug- and money-laundering suspects. Thirty-one people were arrested at various Buffalo-area locations.
