Children's organizations in need of support

Becoming a foster parent is a rewarding experience, and welcoming your first foster child or children's arrival is an experience I think only a foster parent can describe.

I have heard it can be the most remarkable moment in one's lifetime. However, foster care parents notification can come quickly and they may need everything " from clothes to a crib or high chair, even a double stroller. Finding these items in the past took a few telephone calls to FISH or Classy Seconds directors to help assist in receiving what was needed.

But now there is the new Foster Closet at FISH, which provides clothing or equipment for foster families. You can help this coming Saturday by coming down to organize the donated clothing and other items.

For those of you who missed out on the Girl Scout cookies or didn't get enough " which is not me " here's your second chance, thanks to Antoinette Roman's daughter, Chloe, from Troop 33.

Ms. Chloe was enterprising enough to send e-mails for pre-sale online and hand delivery. My eight boxes added to her astounding total of 327 boxes, which is outstanding.

I need to congratulate her, she's a smart little cookie. She'll be selling more with her entire Girl Scout Troop 33 at the following location.

There is a new store in town, and it's going green.

Bring your old cell phones to the grand opening of JC & C wireless store, an authorized retailer for AT&T, and they will send those old cell phones off to be recycled.

Don't trash your cell phone " recycle it and help keep toxic metals out of the landfills.

Nice to see new businesses opening up and helping out!

Court Appointed Special Advocates are amazing volunteers within our community who continue to assist children.

Most the time we forget the child's opinion. We are worried about the mother getting off the streets, the child getting food, a pair of shoes or a jacket, but do we really hear the child's worries, their concerns and needs?

Children need an adult to be their advocate in those tough situations. This is when a CASA worker is most valuable to a child.

Come support this program by grabbing your tennis shoes and putting your best foot forward in the third annual walk/run event to help support all the remarkable individuals that advocate for children.

Register early. There are only 300 openings.
