A Reno school bus rear-ended a Carson City woman's SUV in Pleasant Valley, causing minor damage to the vehicles and resulting in citations for both drivers.

The bus was carrying 47 Donner Springs Elementary students and six parents back to Reno from a field trip to Carson City when it rear-ended the Mitsubishi driven by Maybell Sanchez-Cruz, 28, of Carson City about 1:45 p.m. Friday.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen, Sanchez-Cruz had slowed because a vehicle in front of her was turning.

Because the collision involved an occupied school bus, Remsa and Washoe County School Police responded along with the Nevada Highway Patrol. No one was transported to the hospital.

Allen said bus driver Gary Grate, 63, of Reno was cited for failing to decrease speed. Sanchez-Cruz was cited for not having a valid driver's license.

The school bus sustained minor scratches to its bumper and the SUV received minor damage, said Allen.
