TOCCATA, a community-based orchestra and symphonic chorus, opens the New Year with the Basically Barocco concert series, featuring masterpieces from the Baroque Era.
The Basically Barocco concert features Archangel Corelli's best known piece, the Concerto Grosso Opus 6 Number 8 with solo violinists Rose Sciaroni and Virginia Bowman and solo cellist Matt Linaman. Also on the program will be J.S. Bach's Fantasy for Organ in G minor, played by David Brock; and Teleman's Concerto for Trumpet in D major, performed by Mark Lord. The concert concludes with Handel's Concerto for Harp, with Marina Roznitovsky as soloist, and Cantata Number 4 from J.S. Bach's symphonic choral masterpiece, the Christmas Oratorio.
TOCCATA vocal soloists include sopranos Anna Helwing; tenor, Andy Sonnemaker; and baritone Stuart Duke. The TOCCATA Orchestra features Rose Sciaroni as concertmaster, David Brock, Matt Linaman and Ben Benson as continuo, and Mark Lord and William Van Meter on baroque trumpets. Maestro James Rawie will conduct all performances.
The first concert of Basically Barocco will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17 at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, 341 Village Boulevard, in Incline Village.
The entire concert, with the TOCCATA Chamber Orchestra and Chorus, will be repeated at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Ave., in South Lake Tahoe and at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, in Squaw Valley Chapel, 440 Squaw Peak Road. The final presentation will be at Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 Island Ave. in Reno at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
General admission one hour prior to the concert is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (62 and up,) $5 for students with valid ID, and free for children under 12 accompanied by a paying adult. Reserved seating is $25 per person.
