‘Going for Baroque’ in summer concert series

TOCCATA — Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus — is kicking off its 10th Summer MusicFest with “Going For Baroque — Summer Solstice Serenade” concert series June 17-23.

The program will open with Vivaldi’s Concerto for Violin and Cello, RV 547, with Natalie Haines Backman and Nick Haines as soloists, and will continue with flutist Josue Casillas performing Vivaldi’s Concerto for Flute No. 428, “Goldfinch.”

Other soloists include: Yuri Liberzon, guitarist, performing Vivaldi’s Concerto RV 82, and harpist Marina Roznitovsky performing Vivaldi’s Concerto No. 540. The concert will conclude with J.S. Bach’s Cantata BWV 9 Es ist das Heil, featuring Anna Helwing, soprano, and Stuart Duke, baritone. Maestro James Rawie will conduct all performances.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 S., Carson City; 7 p.m. Friday, June 19, at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 341 Village Blvd., Incline Village; and 3 p.m. Sunday, June 21, at St. Theresa Church, 1041 Lyons Ave., South Lake Tahoe. The final performance will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 California Ave., Reno.

General admission is $25 for adults and $20 for seniors. Preferred seating is $35 and $15 for youth/students. Students under 24 years of age with valid identification are $5 in non-preferred seating and in whatever seating is available 10 minutes prior to concert start time.

Two fundraisers will also take place in conjunction with this concert series. The first will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at a private home in Cave Rock, and the second fundraiser will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 27, at a private home in Reno. Flutist Josue Casillas, guitarist Yuri Liberzon, and several of TOCCATA’s top vocal soloists and singers from its recent tour to Italy will provide all entertainment. TOCCATA’s 10th Summer MusicFest continues with the celebration of TOCCATA’s 10th anniversary, July 14-21, featuring opera duets and arias, Mozart’s Variations on Twinkle Little Star performed by Josue Casillas and Joy Strotz, Verdi opera choruses, Beethoven’s Fantasy for Piano, Orchestra and Chorus, and finishes with a salute to the 50th anniversary celebration of the Sound of Music.
