Roland J. Sanger

Roland J. Sanger, a 54-year resident of Redwood City, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Dec. 30, 2008, his 92nd birthday. He was a loving father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Roland was a patient, generous, loving, and organized man of great integrity.

Born in Carson City Dec. 30, 1916 to Lillie and John Sanger, Roland attended elementary and high school there. He learned the basic principles of budgeting at Reno Business College and applied them throughout his life. He and Mom enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Roland was a World War II veteran, retired after 33 years with the "US Treasury", and enjoyed 35 years of retirement.

Roland was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Redwood City, NARFE, and AARP. He attended baseball games, attended musical performances with friends, and was known for his love of roses in his garden and for the hummingbirds that came to feed by his kitchen window. He was a master of the game of cribbage and an accomplished bowler and golfer. He enjoyed all collegiate and professional sports, especially basketball, football and baseball.

Roland answered to many names: Roland, RJ, Jake, Uncle Jaky, Grandpa and Spinorky.

Roland was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary, in 1999.

Roland is survived by his children Nina Prockish and Wayne Sanger and wife Laraine; grandchildren Tom Sanger and wife Laura, Victoria Sanger, and Toni Prockish; great-grandchildren Kailey, Bryson and Zachariah Sanger; aunt Mildred Heidenreich; nieces and nephews Ginny Kish, Rita Thays and husband Norm, Cheryl Butcher, Tom States and wife Cheryl, Lu States, Bobby Kish, Steve Boczkiewicz and wife Toni, Cathy Ligmond and husband Mihaly; church family at First United Methodist Church; and special friends, the Stoddards, the Reddingtons, Jerry Schutz, Eileen Lowery and Valerie Hernandez.

Family graveside services will be held in Carson City at a future date.
