Claudette, manager of the Carson Advocates for Cancer Care "Cared 4 Seconds" Thrift and Consignment Store at 710 N. Curry St., has organizational skills that fit the store to a T. With just five small areas to work with, she has on display everything from small appliances to clothing to books and a snowboard, three fondue pots and a bassinet full of Beanie Babies.

"We also have some furniture, knick-knacks and a lot purses," said Pat Williams, president of CACC, a non-profit organization founded in 1992.

Williams said proceeds from the store will go to rent and one paid salary, with the remaining funds going to the organization to help cancer patients pay for treatment and medication. Volunteers with CACC also help out at the store.

"Our primary mission is to provide financial assistance for cancer-related medical bills to the uninsured or underinsured cancer patients who come to Carson City for treatment."

The idea for the store came about after the group's annual yard sale yielded many leftover items. They searched for a building, found one, and opened in late September.

"Business has been a little slow," Williams said. "We just need to get the word out. The Beer Crawls and Wine Walks are helping."

Williams is a prostate cancer survivor himself, and said many of the board members of Carson Advocates for Cancer Care are cancer survivors, also.

"We'll even let those clients who are in need of clothing get items from the store, for free," he said.
