LOS ANGELES " The Los Angeles Police Department says an 18-year-old man has been shot to death while trying to stop a carjacking.
Police say Javier Villareal died early Thursday in the Pacoima neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley. He had seen a carjacking in progress and confronted three suspects who were armed with a gun.
One of the carjackers shot at him several times. Villareal was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the victim of the carjacking was unhurt.
Police believe the incident was gang-related.
