John Booth of the Austin Reveille was born in England and reared on good British beer. He has good words to say for the potables of his youth: "It is now claimed that beer propagates and multiplies Bright's disease, diabetes and other kidney complaints. Bosh. The writer of this drank nothing but beer until he reach the age of maturity ... and a healthier subject is not to be found. The want of good beer is more liable to produce Bright's disease of the kidney."
