The Department of Motor Vehicle's new facial recognition software helped nab a Dayton sex offender allegedly trying to a get a driver's license in his dead brother's name.

Timothy Dean Johnson, 41, was arrested by DMV compliance officers at the office on Wright Way Tuesday afternoon. He was booked into the Carson City Jail.

According to investigators, Johnson allegedly attempted to get a license using the birth certificate of his brother, Shawn Michael Johnson, who died in 1980 at age 14.

A registered sex offender who has spent at least 15 years in prison, Johnson recently was in Lovelock Correctional Center on a third-offense drunken driving charge out of Carson City in 2005. Records show he was released in May.

Johnson's arrest is the third time the facial recognition software has prevented the issuance of false ID, said Tom Jacobs of the DMV.
