Girl Scout collects blankets, towels, toys for local animals

Residents can now recycle old blankets and towels and help animals in Carson City. Kaitlin Lucky, 12, a Girl Scout with Troop 399 in Carson City, is working with Carson City Animal Services to collect used blankets and towels to help the animals at the shelter.

This is an ongoing project. Donations may be dropped off at Benson's Feed & Tack, 2750 U.S. 50 East; S & W Feeds, 2292 S. Carson St.; Petsmart, 250 Fairview Dr.; Carson City Animal Services, 3770 Butti Way.

Donations of food (particularly cat food) and toys also are needed.

Lucky also is working to make the public aware of Animal Service's New Hope Fund. Donations to this fund are used by Animal Services to treat sick and injured animals.

City seeks audit committee member

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications until July 20 from individuals interested in serving on the Audit Committee as a Citizen at Large category.

Citizens at Large are required to be from the private sector with no less than five years of experience in financial services, public accounting, governmental auditing, and are current with public laws and regulations governing the Audit Committee for Carson City.

This Committee provides advice on matters involving the internal and external audit function of Carson City.

A minimum commitment of up to three hours a month is required. All members serve without compensation. The term expires December 2010.

Committee members must be residents and registered voters of Carson City.

Volunteer applications may be obtained from and returned to the Carson City Executive Offices. For more information, call 887-2100.

Ross Gold Park closed for pump system installation

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department is preparing to install an irrigation pumping system in the pond at Ross Gold Park, requiring the pond be drained.

The pond is temporarily fenced, and the public is being asked to stay clear of the pond to ensure everyone's safety. All waterfowl have been safely relocated and are being cared for.
