Ban on text messaging while driving resurrected

Sen. Shirley Breeden's bill to ban text messaging while driving was resurrected in the Senate Monday evening and passed as an emergency measure.

SB309 goes to the Assembly, earlier this session killed the measure.

Monday, the Las Vegas Democrat convinced Sen. Dennis Nolan, R-Las Vegas, to let her add it to SB309, which was originally his proposal to require titling, registration and insurance on motorized vehicles which currently don't require licenses and insurance.

The amendment replaced that language with the test messaging ban.

The measure would warn drivers for texting while driving but wouldn't cause a driver to lose points and, therefore, wouldn't affect their insurance rates.
