Nevada Bighorns fail to overcome Folsom Pioneers' lead

FOLSOM, Calif. " The Nevada Bighorns summer college baseball team

couldn't overcome a seven-run third inning for the Folsom Pioneers as

the Pioneers went on to a 10-4 win on Sunday in Folsom. Calif.

Matt Chavez hit a three-run home run to spark the third inning rally

for the Pioneers. The Pioneers scored two runs in the first and the

seven runs in the third gave them a 9-0 lead.

In the fourth, Jeff Young and Eric Maupin walked and Adam Anderson

followed with an RBI single for the Bighorns to cut the deficit to

9-1. The Pioneers took a 10-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI sacrifice

fly.

The Bighorns scored three runs without a hit in the fifth to close to

within 10-4. Kevin Decker, Royal Good, Ray Barrett and Shane

Kockenmeister all walked to force in a run with no outs. Maupin

followed with an RBI sacrifice fly and another run scored on a

fielder's choice to make it 10-4.

Kyle Flagg pitched two scoreless innings and Ryan Shepherd and Maupin

each pitched a scoreless inning for the Bighorns. Anderson had three

hits while Barrett, Kockenmeister and Decker all added a hit for the

Bighorns, who will next play the Reno Astros semipro team at 7 p.m.

Wednesday at Moana Stadium.
