There's no denying it: Summer is upon us. After completing exams and assignments, signing yearbooks and saying goodbyes, students left CHS for a well-deserved break. We wish all students and staff an enjoyable summer.

Summer is the best time to relax with a good book. There are several places online to look for suggestions, including the American Library Association's "Best Books for Young Adults" list at www.ala.org/yalsa/booklists, and other sites including www.teenreads.com, www.guysread.com, and www.readingrants.org.
Also, don't forget to try the public library for good suggestions and a wide selection of the latest and greatest titles.

Students who plan to take the ACT test on Sept. 12 must register by Aug. 7. Log on to www.act.org for registration.

The Millennium Scholarship is a great opportunity for students planning to attend college in Nevada after high school. Log on to www.nevadatreasurer.gov to view the requirements for this program.

The Fall Athletic Clearance Night will be held in the CHS North Foyer at 6 p.m. June 15. All athletes must turn in their completed sports packet at that time, and will have the opportunity to meet with their prospective coaches.

Summer football class for JV and varsity players starts June 29. Summer conditioning for incoming freshmen starts July 6.

The Carson High School football team concluded its spring football drills with a community service canned food drive, and it was a huge success. The football team's efforts resulted in three truckloads of food for needy people in the Carson City area.
The goal of the effort was to give back to the community in some way for all the support given to the program.
The team thanks all those who were involved in helping support the food drive.

Cadets from the CHS NJROTC recently collected 60 boxes of clothing and shoes for Project Iraq. The items were distributed to needy Iraqi families.

Senator Square will be on hiatus for the summer. The next column will be published at the beginning of the 2009-10 school year.
