Carson City Nurse Valerie Linke attended the Nurse in Washington Internship in March in Washington, DC., sponsored by the Nursing Organizations Alliance.
Linke joined more than 100 conference attendees, including registered nurses and nursing students nationwide and from Canada.
The internship program teaches nurses to influence health care through the legislative and regulatory processes. Participants attend educational sessions, hear expert nursing advocates and government officials and network with other nurses.
"I look forward to sharing my newly gained knowledge to enhance my influence on health care legislation and my role as a patient advocate," Linke said.
Linke is a radiology nurse manager at Great Basin Imaging in Carson City. She is a member of Association of Radiology and Imaging Nurses and a 2006 recipient of the Northern Nevada Nurse of Achievement. She has been a frequent speaker at national radiology meetings and is considered an expert in the field of outpatient interventional radiology nursing.
