Elder D. S. Mills, of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ, is to give several sermons in the Courthouse in this city. On Saturday evening his subject will be, "The divinity of the Bible;" Sunday evening, "The spirit of man Immortal:" Monday evening, "The Sabbath." Elder Mills is said to be a very eloquent and convincing speaker.

100 years ago

Postmaster Hofer announces that the free delivery carrier system is to be extended to every house number in the limits of Carson City. The weight of the mail being delivered here has increased so that the postmaster is tickled to death. There will be three daily deliveries through the city. One will be before noon, one between three and five o'clock and one after six o'clock in the evening. Carson City therefore will have about the best mail delivery system in the state of Nevada.

70 years ago

The nomination of the person the least community minded in Elko goes to the person that deliberately drove through the city constructed cricket traps north of the city over the weekend. City officials and cricket workmen were too mad to voice their opinions of the individuals who did the trick.

50 years ago

Sunday marks the return of outboard racing to western Nevada for the first time in almost ten years at Silver Springs on Lake Lahontan. The race is sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association. Chuck Parsons of Lodi, holder of three world's speed records, will be among the entries.

More than 500 children have graduated from the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program in Douglas County in a successful effort to fight drugs.

Ed Yourdon, the guru of Y2K and a shameless alarmist and author of "Time Bomb 2000" is calling it quits. " I simply feel that I've done everything I can to raise the alarm about Y2K," he said.
