Nevada's unemployment rate hit a record 11.3 percent statewide in May, the highest since figures started being kept in 1976.

Monthly data released Wednesday by the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation put the state well above the national jobless rate of 9.4 percent for the month.

The report calls economic conditions in Nevada "extremely weak." It says 154,600 Nevadans were out of work statewide, including almost 113,000 in the Las Vegas area.

Compared to April, the unemployment rate in the Las Vegas area climbed more than half a percent, to 11.1 percent. The Reno-Sparks area went up from 11 percent to 11.2 percent.
