The Western Nevada College women's softball team will hold an open tryout from 4-6 p.m. on June 30 at the Carson High School softball field. Participants are asked to enter the ball field from the school 's north parking lot.
Players need to bring their own bat, glove and cleats. They will participate in drills that include hitting, catching, base-running and sliding.
Eligible student athletes include high school graduates, GED holders, and new, current or former college students. There is no player age limit in the National Junior College Athletic Association, as long as a student-athlete has two years of eligibility to play college softball.
Players who are under 18 must have a parent sign a release that is available ahead of time from the WNC Intercollegiate Athletics office on the Carson City campus (445-3344).
WNC student athletes are required to enroll full-time in at least 12 academic credits each semester, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0. They are also eligible for athletics scholarships that may become available.
The Wildcats compete in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, an NJCAA Division I conference that includes colleges in Nevada, Utah, Idaho and Colorado.
