Schwarzenegger's plane makes emergency landing

LOS ANGELES (AP) - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's plane has been diverted to the Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley because of smoke in the cockpit.

Spokesman Aaron McLear says the jet was about 10 minutes away from landing at the Santa Monica Airport on Friday evening when the pilot reported smoke coming from an instrument panel.

McLear says the pilot made a quick and steep landing at 6:23 p.m. Los Angeles City fire crews met the jet on the runway.

No one was injured.

Schwarzenegger tweeted about the diversion, calling it "a little adventure," and posting a link to a photo of the jet on his Twitter feed.

"All's ok, though," he said.

House impeaches federal judge

WASHINGTON (AP) - The House on Friday impeached a federal judge imprisoned for lying about sexual assaults of two women, in the first such vote since impeaching former President Bill Clinton a decade ago.

The impeachment of U.S. District Judge Samuel Kent of Texas sets up a trial in the Senate. Kent is the first federal judge impeached in 20 years.

The House approved four articles of impeachment against Kent accusing him of sexually assaulting two female employees and lying to judicial investigators and Justice Department officials. All four articles passed unanimously.

Kent, 59, entered a federal prison in Massachusetts on Monday to serve a 33-month sentence. He pleaded guilty last month to lying to judicial investigators about sexual assaults of two female employees.

Walter Cronkite reportedly gravely ill

NEW YORK (AP) - CBS isn't commenting on reports that veteran newsman Walter Cronkite is gravely ill.

The 92-year-old former anchor of "The CBS Evening News," who has been ailing for some time, has reportedly taken a turn for the worse, according to TVNewser and other online sites.
