Mystery Solved: For the past few nights people who had business on the back streets at a late hour, would see horsemen galloping up and down, and cutting the most comical figures upon the hurricane decks of horses. At first sight it was thought the horsemen were the advanced mob of that fraud of a circus called the "Great Arabian," but subsequent investigations have developed the fact that the mysterious horsemen are the Grand Marshall's aides practicing for the Fourth of July.

100 years ago

The wealth and fashion of Carson City assembled yesterday in the new Methodist Episcopal Church to do honor to the pastor and congregation and help support the dedication of the edifice. The total cost of the edifice is above $11,500 and remained unpaid to Rev. Hornaday. What remained unpaid was nearly $6,000. When the people of Carson City who were present heard the details, the response simply wiped out the deficit and the Methodist Church, the finest denomination in the state, was freed from the encumbrance.

70 years ago

The work of "breaking" cement for Carson City's white way started at two o'clock this afternoon in the vicinity of the Exchange Hotel.

50 years ago

Twenty Nevada National Guardsmen, the "cream" of the 578-man unit, underwent training at Camp Irwin, California. Of the 20 who started, six graduated.

A memorial service for Marion Wheeler Arkell, 73, a Carson City resident for 29 years was held recently. She was born March 7, 1916 in Brooklyn, N.Y.
