A warning: A man coming out of a Texas newspaper office with one eye gouged out, his nose spread all over his face, and one of this ears chewed off, replied to a policeman who interviewed him, "I didn't like an article that 'peared in the paper last week, an' I went in ter see the man who writ it,' an he was there."

There is a tempest in a teapot at Reno, where the entire work force of the telephone office walked out because a new woman from Sacramento treated them "like dogs." It seems the telephone company has desired more of a system in its office and brought a capable woman from the Sacramento office to introduce the young women of Reno to real up-to-date telephone work. The phone was working all right this morning after the Reno girls quit when their shift was over.

Mark Amodei, who was confined to his home a few days because of illness, has returned to duty at the Pine Cone.

George Henry Payne, a one-time publisher of the Nevada Appeal died June 20 at his home in Saratoga, Calif. Following a lingering illness. He was 65. Payne owned the Carson papers from 1948 to 1951.
