UPDATE: Washoe Valley fire

WASHOE VALLEY - Firefighters are trying to stomp on a wildland fire burning south of Reno on the east side of scenic Washoe Valley.

Reno Fire Department spokesman Steve Frady says the Eastlake fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Jumbo Grade area along Eastlake Boulevard.

The area is in steep terrain, and residents of a handful of homes above the fire have been asked to evacuate.

No homes have been damaged or lost.

Frady says engines have been positioned around structures, and two helicopters are making air drops. One hand crew is also on scene, and Frady says two more are on the way.

The cause of the fire is not known, though there were reports of scattered thunderstorms in the area.

Fire crews are currently at the scene of a lightning-caused wildfire in the Washoe City area that is threatening structures and power lines.

Crews are in the Jumbo Grade area near East Lake Boulveard. The fires is under Reno Fire jurisdiction and BLM, NDF and USFS are assisting.

Structural engines, aircraft and a handcrew have been assigned to the incident. The East Lake fire is currently approximately 12-14 acres.
