Christian event focuses on God and country

The Carson City Capital Christian Center will host its ninth annual Celebration of God and Country on Sunday.

Activities begin at 4 p.m. and include a barbecue and bounce house. The evening culminates with a concert at 7 p.m. by Season Six American Idol contestant Chris Sligh.

There will be two youth competitions, a three-on-three basketball tournament and skateboarding competition.

The basketball tournament will be from 4-7 p.m. Entry fees are $20 per team.

The first-place team will win $110. Second place will be awarded $80, and the third-place team will receive $50.

The skate competition will be at the same time, and it costs $10 to enter. The winner of this competition will take home $100. Second place will win $75 and $50 will go to the third-place contestant.

For those looking for a spicier time, there also will be a chili cookoff, with competitions in the categories of red chili, chili verde and salsa.

The entry fee for the chili cookoff is $25 and $15 for salsa. Prizes range from $15 to $100.
