130 years ago

The one hundred and third anniversary of our National Independence will be celebrated in Carson City on a scale of grandeur never before known in the State of Nevada. The Committee has secured Treadway's Park, where the usual literary and musical exercises will be held. There will be a grand military review. Targets will be erected for those wishing to indulge in rifle practice.

100 years ago

Mayor H. B. Van Etten received word today that the fountain donated to the City of Carson had been shipped from the East. The fountain started its trip across the country on June 23 and is expected to be here by the end of July. Arrangements will be made for its immediate installation.

70 years ago

The Highway department offices are to close at noon today with a three and one-half days holiday ahead for the boys and girls. Department heads and employees worked last Saturday afternoon and will work next Saturday afternoon in making up for Monday, which is the Fourth of July.

50 years ago

New registrations for 1,392 cars have been handled since 1959-60 license plates went on sale the first of June. This represents an increase of 273 vehicles over the same period last year.

20 years ago

An hour before sunrise Saturday, lawmakers ended the longest legislative session ... making it the first Legislature to meet in July during regular session.

10 years ago

Parallel parking will be allowed along Highway 50 in front of Mills Park only on July 4, 1999.
