(AP) - Information from a victim of a botched surgery prompted Nevada officials to attempt to shut down two Las Vegas businesses believed to be operating as illegal surgical centers.

The state Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance delivered cease-and-desist orders to Botanica Maya and Botanica San Francisco after getting the information and finding medical waste and Spanish-label medications at one of the businesses.

Both businesses are licensed as health food and vitamin stores. Investigators said police got a 911 call after a woman undergoing a gynecological operation began bleeding heavily. The person doing the surgery left before police arrived.
