Bethlehem Lutheran School hosts silent auction

Bethlehem Lutheran School hosts a silent auction fundraiser, 6:15-7:15 p.m., Thursday, March 5, 1837 Mountain St. Items will be on display in the gym 10 a.m., today. All proceeds from the fundraiser will pay for paving the lunch area and playground equipment. For information, call 882-5252.

"The Beauty of Poetry - from English to Spanish" at WNC

Western Nevada College hosts "The Beauty of Poetry - from Spanish to English", 7-9 p.m., today, Marlette Hall, Cedar Building, 2201 W. College Parkway. The free lecture will consider the challenges of poetry translation, and will feature two area poets in the process. Shaun Griffin and Roy Chavez will discuss the process of translating poetry from English to Spanish in a lecture, "Why Translate: A Poet's Journey to the Most Rewarding Act." Affordable lab screenings offered

Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center offers affordable lab screenings the second Tuesday of the month. The next affordable lab screening healthcheck fair will be March 10. Doctor's orders are not required. Included: Comprehensive Metabolic and Lipid Panel, PSA, CBC, TSH, and Hemoglobin A1c. Appointments are required. Healthcare Auxiliary hosts March luncheon at Casino Fandango

Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary hosts its March luncheon, Tuesday, March 10 at the Casino Fandango, 3800 S. Carson St. A "meet and greet" will be at 11 a.m. with lunch and business meeting held after. Bill Welch, CEO of the Nevada Hospital Association will speak. Deadline nearing for Alyce McCracken Memorial Scholarships

Application forms for the Alyce McCracken Memorial Scholarships, sponsored by the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors, are available at local high schools in the counseling offices or directly from SNRA. Scholarships are offered to high school seniors in Carson City, Douglas County, Churchill County and Lyon County (except for Fernley, which is part of the Reno/Sparks Association of Realtors). Free tax preparation for seniors

AARP will offer free tax preparation for seniors. Taxpayers wanting their taxes prepared and electronically filed for free do not have to be AARP members or any specific minimum age. Through April 15 representatives will be at the Douglas County Library, 1625 Library Lane, Minden, 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday and Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday.
