David Avery, age 48, sadly passed from this life Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 due to complications of ALS - Lou Gehrig's Disease.

David was born Aug. 20, 1960 to Darrell (Rip) and Barbara (Hassinger) Avery in Janesville, Wis. He graduated from Parker High School in 1978, excelling in DECA and wrestling. He was a member of St. William Catholic Church, Janesville. Dave set out with his buddies to tour the United States, landing him in Pocatello, Idaho, where he began his career with Albertsons as a produce clerk. Through hard work and diligence, he quickly moved up through the ranks. He was promoted and transferred to stores in Emmett, Idaho, Reno and Sparks, Nevada, when he was promoted to Store Manager. He met his wife, Randi (Stroud), through mutual friends and was married at Walley's Hot Springs, in February 1985. Blessed to this union were two children, Lauryn in 1987 and Josh in 1989. They have been the apples of his eye from the very start. In 1990, David decided to end the retail grocery career for a sales career with Sysco Foodservice. Anyone knowing Dave knew that sales were his calling, with all his customers and accounts calling him "Sysco Dave". He enjoyed a satisfying and fulfilling career, winning many awards for his sales prowess, until his early retirement in 2005 due to illness. During his children's early years he enjoyed coaching and mentoring boy's football through the Pop Warner program, as well as being a major fan of the sports activities of his children. Hobbies included golf, camping, fishing, hunting, any activity related to his family, and basically puttering at any "project" he had going at the time.

Surviving David is his wife of 24 years, Randi; daughter Lauryn; son Josh all of Sparks, father Darrell Avery, mother Barbara Avery; grandmother Evelyn Peterson all of Janesville, Wis., sisters Kelli (Gary) Lewis of Orfordville, Wis. and Dianne Lowry of Wisconsin; nieces Amber Warmke, Ashley Lowry, Aimee Lewis and nephew Andrew Lewis and his "hairy" girl Lady.

David was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leo Peterson, and grandparents Ralph and Hazel Hassinger and his "hairy" girl Panzer.

As per David's request, his remains were cremated with Mountain View Mortuary handling. There will be a celebration of his life 1-4:30 p.m., Sunday, April 5 at Cottonwood Restaurant, Truckee, Calif. Please contact his family at 775-425-1830 or ralajo@yahoo.com to obtain details, directions and RSVP.

Dave was deeply loved by many and will be sadly missed. We all know he is now working on his next project.

In Life we loved you dearly

In death we do the same

It broke our hearts to lose you

You did not go alone

For part of us went with you

The day God called you home.

Your loving family
