Fundraiser to benefit Gardnerville teen

A 12-hour tattoo marathon and hot dog sale will be held Saturday to raise funds for a Gardnerville high school senior who is battling cancer.

POBOB Motorcycle Club spearheaded the event at Hooligan Ink in Carson City, said owner and POBOB club member Sean Dawley.

Tattooing starts at 8 a.m. and will go until 8 p.m. Saturday. Select tattoos at the shop or script tattoos that take under half an hour will be $50 with 20 percent of the proceeds going to Bailey Piper, 18. The remainder of the proceeds will help pay supply and shop costs.

"People can bring in a small item, but we are trying not to do too many custom tattoos. We are trying to make it a 20- to 30-minute tattoo per person to get the most people through," Dawley said.

Piper, 18, is a Douglas High senior who is taking online classes while she undergoes treatment for osteosarcoma at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

This is not the first time that the crew at Hooligan's on Fairview Drive has donated money to a good cause. In November, Dawley and two other artists in his shop tattooed for 24 hours straight to benefit Austin's House, a home for abused and neglected children in Carson Valley.

After that marathon, Dawley and the guys decided 24-hour marathons were not lucrative because of the lull in customers between midnight and 8 a.m.

Twelve hours suits their needs perfectly, said Dawley.

There also will be refreshments available. Dawley said if you're not inclined to get a tat, stop in and drop a couple of bucks in the bucket at the counter.

Also on Saturday, Finx Gourmet Hot Dogs, 1321 N. Carson St. inside the Short Stop Market, will make a donation to Piper's fund.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. purchase any large dog on the menu for $5. The first $2 will go to the Piper family to help offset some of the rising medical costs not covered by insurance, said Jan Gribble of Finx.
