Rosemarie E. Moore passed away peacefully at her home in Rocklin, Calif. Feb. 28, 2009, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 78 years old.

She was born in Detroit, Mich. Aug. 24, 1930 to Lillian and William Skanes and had two brothers Danny and Larry, all of whom precede her in death.

She is survived by her daughters Lynne Emmerling of Roseville, Calif. and Debra Chappell of Carson City; her son-in-law Stephen Chappell of Carson City and her beloved grandchildren Megan and Jeff Emmerling, and Michael and Christopher Chappell. Her sister-in-law Donna Skanes of Missouri and various cousins, nieces, and nephews in Michigan and California also survive her.

Rosemarie was married to George Moore who preceded her in death in 1982. She was an ardent supporter of him in his Track and Field business that they moved from Southern California to Carson City in 1974. She was also active in the Carson City Hospital Guild and the Carson City Garden Club. After her husband's death, she moved to Roseville, Calif. in 1986.

She confronted her illness with the same quiet determination and courage that defined her life - never complaining, and maintaining her gentle disposition and sense of humor throughout, but with a strong resolve and a silent will of iron.

She never lost her enthusiasm for the pole vault, but in later years, reveled most in the love and activities of her immediate family especially her grandchildren, who of course were the most brilliant, good looking, and talented of any. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed many trips to Graeagle, California with the family - fishing, watching the birds, taking in the various lake scenery, or just sipping coffee on the front deck. She enjoyed gardening and took pride in her colorful camellias she lovingly tended at her Rocklin home, but saved most of her nurturing energies for her children and grandchildren, offering hours of practical support, enthusiastic encouragement, sage words of advice (whether we wanted it or not), and generous helpings of love and affection. She will always be remembered for her unending kindness, sunny disposition, and ever-ready sense of humor, and will be so very missed by us all. Her love, compassion, and cherished memory will live in our hearts forever.

She chose to be cremated and requested as little "folderal" as possible, so in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in her name to Sutter Roseville Hospice, 1836 Sierra Garden Dr. #130, Roseville, CA 95661.
